The legend of Saint George and the Dragon tells of Saint George (303 AD) taming and slaying a dragon that demanded human sacrifices. The story goes that the dragon originally extorted tribute from villagers. When they ran out of livestock and trinkets for the dragon, they started giving up a human tribute once a year. This was acceptable to the villagers until a well-loved princess was chosen as the next offering. The saint thereupon rescues the princess chosen as the next offering.

The painting on this jacket can be found in underground The Church of St. George In Ethiopia. He is one of the patron saints of Ethiopia as well as it’s military, and the Imperial family. His image was on the Emperor’s standard, on the front of the Emperor’s crown.

The Church of Saint George was carved downwards from volcanic rock. This is the sole architectural material that was used in the structure. It has been dated to the late 12th or early 13th century AD, and thought to have been constructed during the reign of King Gebre Mesqel Lalibela, of the late Zagwe dynasty. It is among the best known and last built of the eleven churches in the Lalibela area, and has been referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World".
